- Abstract
This study explores the attitudes of university students in Hong Kong towards translanguaging in English-medium instruction courses. Using a situational judgment test, the research investigates students’ attitudes towards translanguaging in five aspects, including the nature of translanguaging, teachers’ translanguaging practices, students’ translanguaging practices, the positive and negative impacts of translanguaging. The findings show that students generally support translanguaging in teaching. However, slight differences in attitudes are observed across different situations and among various groups of students. The paper analyzes these differences and their underlying causes and further provides some suggestions for teachers on how to select appropriate teaching strategies in the classroom.
