- Abstract
Viewed from cultivation theory, this paper identifies the mechanisms of action of ChatGPT in higher education and explores the path of optimization. According to the results, ChatGPT shapes higher education on the basis of three dimensions: cognitive, behavioral, and value-oriented reorganization of teaching methods; teacher-student relations and systems of evaluation, with possible development of intellectual dependency. The challenges for educational applications were reduced thinking, ideological infiltration, and alienation of educational essence. To this end, the present paper proposes a series of systematic optimization strategies under the following headings: institutional safeguards, pedagogical innovation, and value guidance. The research results show that an understanding of the dialectical relationship between technology and education is called for in the age of AI, advocating the positive use of ChatGPT in changing education while warning about its effects on educational fundamentals. This paper can contribute to approaches to changing education based on the theoretical insights as well as practical guidance that it provides.
