Abstract

Given the rising call for mental health support among university students, AI-based psychological counseling has received recognition as a convenient and efficient support modality. The investigation needs to study further student openness toward artificial intelligence (AI) mental health assistance and the influencing elements that drive their adoption decisions. The investigation surveys how university learners approach AI-based counseling services while analyzing the key aspects that affect their readiness to use this technology. Research based on TAM and TPB principles employs surveys to determine which aspects of usefulness, ease of use and subjective norms coupled with AI counseling perceptions and perceived control behaviors influence students’ intentions to use these digital counseling services. Research results show that students exhibit a positive willingness to use AI counseling because of all five analyzed factors. Users find ease of use particularly impactful when it comes to accepting new technologies with their perception of behavioral control as the second most important factor. The study presents critical findings that can guide the development of AI-based mental health services better. The researchers propose to develop AI technology enhanced with a user-friendly interface to increase psychological control perception among students who should both have enhanced satisfaction levels and experience enhanced social awareness to drive student acceptance of AI mental health services as university support options.
