Exploring the Impact of Different Information Presentation Forms on the Xiaohongshu Platform on the Public’s Understanding of Common Eating Disorder Diseases

Abstract

This study aims to study the impact of different information presentation methods and different content types on the audience’s understanding of eating disorder-related content on the Xiaohongshu platform. A total of 90 relevant posts from January 1, 2024, to March 1, 2025, were selected. After processing according to the information presentation methods, the numbers of likes, collections, and comments were crawled, and then the content was classified, and the basic concepts and types were determined through coding. The results show that the average numbers of likes, collections, and comments of video notes are much higher than those of picture and text notes. Among different content types, the data of likes for help-seeking text notes, collections for popular science text notes, and comments for sharing text notes stand out. Picture and text notes of the sharing type are numerous and popular, and video notes of the inspiring type have high numbers of likes, and those of the sharing type have high numbers of collections. The study believes that the audience on the Xiaohongshu platform prefers the video presentation method, and different content types have their own characteristics. Creators should choose appropriate presentation methods according to their goals, to increase the creation of specific types of content. The platform also needs to formulate support policies, guide the creation direction, optimize functions, and manage interactions to improve the content quality and user experience.
