Abstract

This research delves into English Fun Dubbing (EFD), an innovative form of Informal Digital Learning of English (IDLE), within the context of higher education. Traditional English education in colleges often faces challenges such as low motivation and weak emotional engagement of students, partly due to teacher-centered background and sterile teaching materials. Based on Krashen’s Input Hypothesis, this study aims to explore the mechanisms through which EFD activates the “affective drive” among learners. By leveraging diverse forms of input and interactive tasks, EFD seeks to enhance students’ emotional investment in the learning process. Adopting a qualitative case study methodology complemented by an extensive literature review, this research endeavors to comprehensively understand the relationship between EFD and students’ emotional motivation. The findings of this study clearly demonstrate a positive correlation between emotional motivation and the effectiveness of language learning. In-depth semi-structured interviews revealed that participants felt more pleasure, less frustration, and greater motivation. The study concludes that EFD supports language learning by engaging learners emotionally. It appears that using these IDLE tools in regular classrooms may result in improved learning outcomes.
