Abstract

Didactic self-assessment can be defined as the students’ ability to make value judgments about their own academic performance based on well-defined criteria and in relation to predetermined educational objectives. Generally speaking, self-assessment skills enable students to build an adequate self-image as well as integrate effectively into the community in which they live. However, specialized studies demonstrate that the formation of such skills in students is given rather little support. The causes could be: insufficient awareness of those involved as regards the importance of this type of skills, poor psycho-pedagogical training in the field or lack of sufficient academic learning time that ought to be dedicated to this purpose. This paper will present the results of a longitudinal study started in 2020 with a group of students from the University of Oradea, Romania. The study was aimed at identifying and increasing the level of development of didactic self- assessment skills in students attending the Psycho-pedagogy and Methodology Training Program. Namely, during their courses the students were encouraged to be actively involved in the educational process by using interactive didactic methods dedicated to this purpose, issue value judgments regarding the activity of their colleagues or self-evaluate their own academic performances. The results obtained demonstrated that, if in the initial stage, most students tended to underestimate themselves, after the administration of strategies specific to non-formal education, most subjects developed their objective didactic self-assessment skills and optimized their academic performance.
