- Abstract
This study explores the status, challenges, and development strategies for community elderly education in the digital age through a case study of five Chengdu communities. Integrating mixed-methods data—including surveys (n = 186), in-depth interviews (10 participants), and detailed case analysis—we identify strong senior demand for digital learning (particularly in smartphone operations, e-government services, and smart-life applications), alongside significant barriers such as age-related physical decline, limited digital experience, and security/financial anxiety. While communities show progress in scenario-based course design, volunteer assistance, and technical support, persistent challenges include uneven resource distribution, insufficient teaching diversity, and fragile collaboration mechanisms. To address these issues, we propose policy measures (e.g., an Elderly Education Promotion Act and dedicated community-education funding) and practical initiatives (e.g., formalized multi-stakeholder partnerships, blended online-offline teaching models, and regular Digital Support Days). These strategies aim to enhance seniors’ digital literacy and social integration, driving the sustainable digital transformation of community elderly education.
