Abstract

Fear of getting old is becoming a bigger problem in Bangladesh now. With more cities growing, families changing, and society’s views shifting, older people are facing different kinds of challenges. Growing old brings fears about losing health, being alone, and having no money, which can hurt the mental health of older people. This study looks at how different age groups in Bangladesh see aging and what they think about it. This research employs one-way ANOVA and multiple regression to assess how people feel about aging, such as thinking it’s dangerous to get old, being afraid of getting old, or feeling lonely in the old age. The results show that there is significant difference in how different age groups feel about aging, meaning that as people get older, their views on aging become much more personal. However, the study noticed a trend where people seem more aware of the challenges of aging, especially the physical, emotional, and social changes. Moreover, the regression analysis found a link between how anxious people are about aging and how much they fear getting old (p = 0.015), with a coefficient of 0.112. This means that people who feel anxious about aging are more likely to be terrified of getting old. The result of this research also points out how fear of aging affect people’s mental health and indicates that there should be programs to help people overcome this, such as educating people about aging and offering mental health support. The study also suggests that future research should focus on the negative sides of aging in Bangladesh and come up with ways to help people deal with their worries.
