Abstract

Work readiness has shifted from merely possessing technical skills to a complex multidimensional construct, particularly amidst the technological disruption of the 21st century. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the determinants of higher education graduates’ work readiness through theoretical synthesis and empirical testing. By integrating Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT), Career Adaptability Theory, and the Graduate Capital Model, this article examines how internal factors (self-efficacy, soft skills) and external factors (internship experience, curriculum quality) interact in shaping work readiness. A causal-quantitative approach was employed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with a sample of 250 final-year students. The analysis results indicate that self-efficacy, soft skills, and internship experience exert a positive and significant effect on work readiness, both directly and indirectly through career adaptability as a mediating variable. The research findings suggest that optimal work readiness is achieved when higher education institutions are capable of transforming academic capital into social and psychological capital that is adaptive to industry needs.
