- Abstract
This study discusses the forms of anxiety that occur in new students and the role of guidance and counseling in the Communication Science Departement. The method used is a descriptive qualitative, the number of informants are 17 people. New students who have communication apprehension tend to closed and rarely express their opinions between their friends and in the learning process such as discussions tend to be passive because they admit to not being confident. A few new students admit to having communication anxiety when attending lectures. Communication anxiety appears when making presentations, answering questions, asking lecturers, and having ordinary conversations. Having communication anxiety inhibits students from developing and needs a period of adaptation to lectures. The results of this study recommend that advisors or counselors analyze student behavior and create strategies so that anxiety that occurs in new students is reduced, supporting the success of students in the lecture process.
