- Abstract
The aim of this study is to look at the impact of the French Government’s efforts to fulfill its commitment to environmental issues through the transition of conventional economic policies to green economic policies, which in turn creates a new problem of increasing economic inflation. The research method used here is a qualitative approach through descriptive-analytical that comes from the subjectivity of the researcher himself. The results of this study are an overview of the dynamics of the impact of changes in conventional economic policies on green economic policies which ultimately give birth to a new problem, namely economic inflation. The French government began its commitment in early January 2018, by implementing an environmentally friendly fuel tax. This turned out to cause socio-economic problems in the community which led to the emergence of massive protest movements in several areas in France known as the phenomenon of ‘Gilets Jaunes’ (Yellow Vests). The conclusion of this study is that the yellow vest phenomenon in France is one of the proofs of the failure of the conventional economic transition to a green economy that is far from the ideals of people’s welfare. The impact of this research is to provide an overview of the reality of the environmental security approach applied to economic development.
