Abstract

Pekalongan City is one of the ancient port cities. Traces of its glory can be seen from various buildings with Indies architecture. This marks that Pekalongan City was once an important place for the Dutch Colonial Government. Currently, these Indies architectural buildings as cultural heritage need to be maintained and preserved by the Pekalongan City Government. The problem that arises is how to maintain and preserve these cultural heritage buildings so that they remain sustainable, even though their functions can no longer be restored to their original functions. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to determine how to maintain cultural heritage buildings in Pekalongan City. The research method begins with understanding the concept of cultural heritage, buildings with Indies architecture, then selecting one cultural heritage building in Pekalongan City that has currently changed its function. Next, the process of changing the function is examined so that the building remains preserved until now. The results of the study show that with the change in function of the building adapted to current needs, the building can still be used while being maintained and preserved, such as the building that is now the Pekalongan Batik Museum.
