Abstract

One way to express the author feelings is through song lyrics. Likewise, the lyrics of Opick’s ‘Rapuh’ and ‘Taubat’ contain expressions of feelings. To express these feelings the author uses language style. The problem discussed in this study is what type of language style and the meanings is used in the lyrics of the songs “Rapuh” and “Taubat” by Opick. In line with these problems, this research aims to describe what language styles are used in the lyrics of these two songs and to elaborate on the meanings the convey. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data source of this research is in the form of the two song lyrics which are aired through the Youtube platform. The researcher listened to the two song lyrics, followed by recording the lyrics that contain language styles. The data collected is in the form of fragments of lyrics that contain language styles. Furthermore, the data was classified and analyzed using the theory of language style. The results show that the language styles used in the lyrics of the songs “Rapuh” and “Taubat” by Opick are metaphor, personification, simile, repetition, antithesis, litotes and tautology, and hyperbole. The language styles in both song lyrics are used to convey messages to listeners about regret, humility, and hope for God’s forgiveness. So, both songs are religious songs that use language styles to express deep meaning.
