Abstract

In 2024, the decree of a state of internal armed conflict in Ecuador, under the presidency of Daniel Noboa, intensified the challenges for journalistic work, particularly in covering sensitive topics such as environmental crimes. This study analyzes the relevance of the environmental journalism course with a focus on environmental crimes, which lasted three months and trained journalists in areas such as environmental legislation, content production, and environmental crimes. A total of 20 scholarships were awarded for investigations in the Amazon region, whose results were published in national and community media.

The analysis focuses on two main aspects: the importance of training and economic incentives for journalists in conflict environments, and the impact of international support on environmental investigations amid growing public interest in these issues. The results indicate that the course strengthened journalistic skills, enabled more in-depth coverage of environmental crimes, and contributed to the professional growth of participants. This study highlights the need for specialized training programs to improve the quality and scope of journalistic investigations in contexts of high environmental and social vulnerability.
