Abstract

This case report aims to describe a case of post-traumatic stress dis- order in a military soldier, highlighting the presenting symptoms, the diagnostic approach used, and the therapeutic strategies applied. Post-traumatic stress dis- order is a mental health condition that can occur after an individual experiences a traumatic event, such as war or conflict. In the military context, post-traumatic stress disorder is a serious concern as it can affect soldiers’ performance and quality of life. This case involved clinical observation of a 35-year-old soldier who developed symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder after being involved in military operations in a conflict area. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, psychological assessment questionnaires, and observation. The soldier exhibited typical PTSD symptoms, including flashbacks, nightmares, excessive anxiety, and avoidance of situations reminiscent of the trauma. The diagnosis was based on DSM-5 criteria. Treatment included medication, cognitive behavioural therapy, and psychosocial therapy. Post-traumatic stress disorder is treated with SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) such as Sertraline 50 mg/day for 2 weeks for mood swings and depression. Alprazolam 0.5 mg, given if agitated.
