Abstract

Gendam, a form of hypnotic manipulation often used in exploitative or criminal activities, can have profound and long-lasting effects on an individual’s mental health. This practice involves psychological techniques such as verbal suggestions, gestures, or commands to exert control over a person’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. While the physical manifestations of gendam may be minimal or difficult to detect, its psychological consequences can be severe, leading to anxiety, trauma, depression, cognitive distortions, and trust issues. Victims may experience heightened levels of anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), feelings of worthlessness, and confusion, often resulting from the loss of personal agency during manipulation. Recovery from the psychological effects of gendam requires a multifaceted approach that includes psychotherapy, support groups, mindfulness techniques, and education to rebuild trust and emotional resilience. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and trauma-focused interventions are essential in helping victims process their experiences and regain control over their mental health. This case report explores the psychological mechanisms underlying gendam, its impact on mental health, and the strategies for recovery and intervention. Understanding the psychological effects of gendam is crucial for providing timely mental health support and preventing long-term psychological harm.
