- Abstract
Trichophagia, a compulsive behavior often associated with trichotillomania, involves the ingestion of hair, leading to the formation of trichobezoars—indigestible hair masses in the gastrointestinal tract. In severe cases, it manifests as Rapunzel syndrome, characterized by a large gastric trichobezoar with a tail extending into the intestines. This rare condition primarily affects young females with underlying psychiatric disorders and can cause serious com- plications such as obstruction, perforation, and malnutrition. Timely diagnosis is crucial to prevent severe complications such as bowel perforation, peritonitis, and even mortality.
