Abstract

The professionalism of school principals is a key pillar in determining the quality and progress of educational units. This study aims to analyze in depth the performance appraisal of elementary school principals in East Kolaka Regency in the 2024/2025 academic year. The assessment of principal competence is viewed from five main competencies (personality, managerial, entrepreneurial, supervisory, and social) and four aspects of performance (as an educator, manager, administrator, and supervisor). This study uses a qualitative approach with the flow model analysis method. Primary data was collected through questionnaires from teachers, principals, and local residents. The data analysis technique used the Milles & Huberman method, which includes three flows: (1) data reduction; (2) data presentation; and (3) conclusion drawing and verification. The results of the data analysis show varying levels of professionalism and performance among school principals, ranging from adequate to good to very good. The most notable finding was that none of the principals were assessed as being in the poor category for all components measured. This indicates that, in general, the principals in East Kolaka Regency have met the expected competency and performance standards. The implications of this study provide constructive feedback for principals to improve themselves and serve as a data basis for the East Kolaka Regency Education Office in designing more focused and relevant coaching programs.
