Abstract

Learning resources that teachers can use in instilling character values are folktales. One of the folktales that can be used as teaching materials for instilling character education is the Banyuwangi folktale. Banyuwangi folktales in East Java contain various character education values. The type of research used in this study is descriptive. Because it describes the values of character education in Banyuwangi folktales in East Java. The data sources in this study come from KI and KD in the Indonesian Language content for Elementary Schools contained in the 2013 curriculum and the book Cerita Rakyat Banyuwangi by Suripan Sadi Hutomo published by PT Grasindo in 1996, in addition to books, other supporting data sources are the results of interviews. The data analysis technique used in this study consists of three stages: the data reduction stage, the data presentation stage, the conclusion drawing or verification stage. The research results show that there are 10 character education values contained in Banyuwangi folktales in East Java: hard work, social awareness, peace, honesty, democracy, religiousness, friendship/communication, tolerance, creativity, and environmental awareness. The dominant character values in this folktale book are hard work, social awareness, and peace.
