Abstract

Madurese women in the public sphere are still often dominated by the superior leadership of men. Especially the character of the Madurese people, who are familiar with negative stereotypes, so women often get limited space. In the creative economy industry, for example, women often face gender inequality. This gender inequality is related to the role of women in the domestic and public sphere, which includes several things, among others: gender stereotype, gender norm, gender role, subordination, marginalization, burden and violence. This research aims to describe the phenomenon of Madurese culture among women in the public sphere of the creative economic industry. This research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach through a phenomenological approach. This study observes Madurese women working in the public space, especially those engaged in the creative economy sector in Bangkalan Regency. Until now, the three leading sub-sectors of the creative economy have been culinary, fashion, and craft. Business actors in the realm of the creative economic industry often support their families’ lives, such as batik craftsmen and batik entrepreneurs. Likewise, Bangkalan batik entrepreneurs, whether in a stable economic situation or not, must be able to create jobs for batik artisans. They have an important role in cultural preservation. The creative economic industry in the fashion sector in Bangkalan is very attached to the existence of women, both in objectification and behind the scenes.
