- Abstract
Indonesia has a tropical climate with high rainfall intensity. The longer the pavement is immersed in water and subjected to repeated loads, the lower the mixture’s durability will be. This research involved the addition of an additive in the form of Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastic waste using a dry mixing method. The variations of LDPE plastic waste used to determine the optimum plastic content were 2%, 3%, and 4% of the weight of coarse aggregate. Plastic waste is expected to help environmental issues that are still challenging to tackle. This research was conducted to determine the effect of the Retained Strength Index (RSI) of Modified Durability Index with variations soaking duration of 1 day, 3 days, 5 days, and 7 days, as well as to assess the adhesion of the mixture using the Cantabro Test on the wearing course mixture. The analysis results of the RSI values showed that the mix with a 2.1% plastic addition had the most minor loss of residual strength compared to the conventional mix, which was 94.70% at the end of the 1-day soaking period. Moreover, the analysis results of the modified durability values for the conventional mixture were 35%, and for the modified mixture, it was 45% at the end of the 7-day soaking period. The results of the Cantabro Test indicated that the modified mixture had higher resistance 1.10% than the conventional mixture. These parameters show that the modified mixture can enhance the mixture’s resistance to the effects of a adhesion resistance.
