Abstract

This study investigates the impact of different statistical distributions on inter-arrival times in discrete event simulation (DES) for repetitive construction projects. Inter-arrival times play a crucial role in repetitive construction project scheduling, influencing efficiency and resource allocation. Using fixed, exponential, normal, and triangular distributions, this research evaluates how these distributions affect repetitive construction project completion times. The findings indicate that fixed distributions yield consistent completion times, while normal distributions introduce moderate variability. The triangular distribution offers a balanced approach with limited data dependency, whereas the exponential distribution exhibits the highest variability. Simulation experiments highlight the significance of selecting appropriate statistical models to optimize productivity, minimize delays, and improve project planning. By integrating DES methodologies, this study provides valuable insights for repetitive construction project managers seeking data-driven decision-making strategies. The research highlights the necessity of aligning simulation models with real-world conditions to enhance operational performance in repetitive construction projects. The results contribute to the advancement of stochastic modeling in construction management, offering practical implications for improving overall project efficiency.
