Abstract

With the increasing number of study programs offered each year, Tadulako University is improving its academic support facilities and infrastructure to create a conducive and comfortable atmosphere and campus life. However, the development of new infrastructure, such as lecture buildings and other supporting facilities at Tadulako University, will potentially cause a decrease in soil absorption capacity in the campus area, which can trigger an increase in surface water runoff. If not properly controlled, this can cause flooding. One of the efforts to control surface runoff discharge is using retention ponds. Based on this, the study aims to determine the appropriate dimensions of the retention pond if it is to be built at Tadulako University. This study uses rainfall data from 2013 to 2022. The analysis of rainfall distribution is conducted using the Log Pearson Type III method, and flood discharge analysis is done using the Nakayasu Synthetic Unit Hydrograph method. Based on the analysis, the peak discharge with a return period of 10 years is 0.28 m3/s. The total volume of water that must be accommodated is 5,515.61 m3. The retention pond is planned to have dimensions of 100 x 25 meters and a height of 3 meters, with a sluice gate for water entry and exit.
