Abstract

The financial services industry’s ability depends more on innovation as customer demands evolve continuously. Research on financial innovation is relatively limited and fragmented in India. This study focuses on the determinants of financial innovation in India, with risk as a moderating factor. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to professionals in fintech firms and financial institutions. Validity, reliability, and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted to validate the constructs. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the hypotheses, followed by moderation analysis to assess the risk’s influence. Results have suggested that demand for financial services, regulatory framework, market competition, technological advancement, capital input, employee skill significantly drive financial innovation, with capital input exhibiting higher impact. According to the study, risk is a critical moderator which is affecting the relationship between innovation and regulatory environment, market competition, and employee skill. The findings provide valuable input for building strong financial innovation ecosystems in developing countries like India.
