Abstract

This study examines warfare patterns in the Anthropocene compared to past civilizations, aiming to determine whether historical conflict patterns are repeating themselves. The objectives of this study are to analyze the characteristics and escalation of warfare in the Anthropocene era, compare current conflict patterns with those of extinct civilizations, and assess the relationship between civilizational progress and the risk of extinction due to war. This study employs qualitative approach using historical comparative analysis. Data were collected through an extensive literature review of academic sources and historical documents, supplemented by recent statistical data on global conflict from international peace research institutes. The results show similar pattern between wars in extinct civilizations and wars in the Anthropocene era. Key findings include an increase in conflict escalation and loss of life in recent years, as evidenced by the country’s record number of combat deaths by 2022. The emergence of complex and interrelated crises involving armed conflict, climate change and economic instability was also observed. The study concludes that the higher the level of civilization, the greater the risk of extinction through war and related disasters. This pattern, observed in past civilizations, appears to be repeated in the Anthropocene era, which highlights the need for new approaches to conflict resolution and environmental management to mitigate these risks.
