Abstract

This article aims to examine the limited inclusiveness of access to knowledge for people with disabilities in Saou Ichikawa’s Hunchback (2023). Furthermore, this article will look at inclusivity efforts that can be made from the point of view of the Sustainable Development Goals launched by the United Nations, focusing on SDG points, especially the 4th point which is Quality Education, the10thpoint Reduced Inequality, and the11thpoint Sustainable Cities and Settlements. The main character in the novel Hunchback works as an online article writer who has Myotubular Myopathy, which prevents her from performing activities like other. The method used in this article is the literary discourse method, which will then be connected to the SDGs’ objectives. The data that appears in the novel will be analyzed using discourse studies that focus on the inclusiveness of access to knowledge for people with disabilities. The results of the analysis were obtained as follows: 1) The digitization of textbooks needs to be intensified; 2) Provision of reading tools for disabilities is still inadequate; 3) People still underestimate cognitive developmental abilities. These three results can be used as a reference for developing knowledge access policies that reduce disability inequality in accordance with the spirit of the SDGs. This article is expected to be part of the efforts to analyze the SDGs using literary works as the material object of study.
