- Abstract
The kingdoms of Sriwijaya and Majapahit are two Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms in Indonesia. These two kingdoms are described as great empires that symbolize the glory and symbol of the unity of the Indonesian nation, in various sources, literature and historical writing, including in history textbooks. This study aims to analyze the discourse that develops about the Sriwijaya and Majapahit kingdoms and various subjective thoughts that are always raised in various historical sources and textbooks that have an influence on the views of the younger generation regarding the two kingdoms. This research uses the historical method, which consists of 4 stages, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study indicate that there is a contradiction between the discourses of the Sriwijaya and Majapahit kingdoms in various historical literatures with actual facts. Sriwijaya and Majapahit which are referred to as symbols of unity in history books show that historical historiography contains nationalistic myths that have an impact on historical values in history learning.
