Abstract

University alumni are expected to possess relevant skills and competencies that make them adaptable and able to contribute effectively in the professional world. This alignment not only enhances alumni employability but also fosters stronger relationships between academia and industry, creating a mutually beneficial ecosystem. This study aims to compare the employment outcomes of graduates from different fields of study at Riau University. It examines employment status, expertise aligned with the field of study, the level of the company where graduates work, and the type of company. Secondary data were collected from Riau University’s tracer study over a 3-year span (2021–2023). The data were analyzed across six academic disciplines: Health Sciences (Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Nursing), Education Sciences (Faculty of Teacher Training and Education), Agrocomplex Sciences (Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Affairs), Engineering (Faculty of Engineering), Humanities (Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), and Mathematics and Natural Sciences (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences). Descriptive qualitative analysis revealed that graduates from the Education Sciences group had the highest employment rate (70.18%). Graduates from the Health Sciences group showed the highest level of expertise in their field (53.21%) and were most likely to work in national or private companies (32.97%). Engineering graduates had the highest rate of employment in private companies (44.34%).
