Abstract

This research explores the transformation of the ICARE learning model (Introduce, Connect, Apply, Reflect, Extend) through the integration of Virtual Museum Tours and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a strategy to enhance socio-historical awareness among students in Pidie Jaya, Aceh. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method, combining literature reviews with field studies. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s framework of data reduction, display, and verification, with triangulation applied to ensure validity. The findings reveal that socio-historical awareness among students in Pidie Jaya remains relatively low, largely due to limited teacher competence, insufficient use of culturally based learning media, and inadequate technological infrastructure. The ICARE model has been partially applied in schools, with teachers generally succeeding in the Introduce and Connect stages, while the Apply, Reflect, and Extend stages are often underutilized. The integration of Virtual Museum Tours and AI provides immersive, interactive, and personalized learning experiences that can overcome these challenges. Virtual tours offer authentic and engaging exposure to cultural heritage, while AI supports adaptive feedback, reflective prompts, and individualized learning paths. The implementation of ICARE enhanced by VR and AI demonstrates significant potential in fostering students’ cognitive, affective, and behavioral engagement with history and culture. This approach not only improves educational outcomes but also contributes to strengthening local identity, promoting cultural preservation, and preparing younger generations to be critical, adaptive, and socially responsible in the context of Education 4.0 and Society 5.0.
