- Abstract
Digital education has become an integral part of student life in India. Schools have adopted digital education technology in order to equip learners with the required knowledge and skills for their all-round development. It also creates a possibility of bringing forth demographic dividend at a faster rate. However, digital divide in schools can pose barriers to such progress. Therefore, this paper attempts to examine availability of digital education technology with primary focus on functional Smart classrooms in both government and private schools through a year- on-year growth rate analysis. It also attempts to make a state-wise comparison in the provision of such classrooms for the current period of 2024–25. It was found that the percentage of government schools having functional Smart classrooms were lesser than those of private schools across majority of states. But when it was compared to enrolment of school students, percentage of government schools having this technology was higher than the enrolment rates and the case was reversed with regards to private schools.
