- Abstract
In the digital era, academic libraries are increasingly shifting from traditional in-house systems to cloud-based Library Management Systems (LMS) to improve efficiency, accessibility, and service delivery. This study undertakes a comparative analysis of cloud-based and traditional LMS, focusing on two academic institutions in Guwahati, Assam—Arya Vidyapeeth College and Dispur College. The findings reveal that cloud-based LMS significantly enhance user engagement, resource accessibility, and cost-effectiveness by eliminating the need for local infrastructure and enabling anytime, anywhere access to the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Moreover, the study highlights the global reach and scalability of cloud-based systems while identifying challenges related to user awareness and training. The results affirm that cloud-based LMS not only reduce operational costs but also transform libraries into dynamic, collaborative, and globally accessible knowledge hubs.
