Abstract

Integrating STEM education - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics - into the curriculum has become a priority in modern education, where teachers play a decisive role. In this study, we present the psychometric properties of the SS-STEM scale, which was validated to measure the readiness of Informatics teachers to implement STEM education. The study surveyed 390 Informatics teachers in Vietnam through a web-based survey, analyzed exploratory and confirmatory factors. The SS-STEM includes four aspects: affective conditions (AC), cognitive conditions (CC), self-efficacy (SE), and STEM commitment (SC). The reliability measures of the four factors were AC (α = 0.866), CC (α = 0.880), SE (α = 0.873), and SC (α = 0.886). Confirmatory factor analysis showed the appropriateness: Chi-square = 129.980; df = 98; Chi-square/df = 1.326; p < 0.001; GFI = 0.824; TLI = 0.953; CFI = 0.962; RMSEA = 0.043. Additionally, the independent sample t-test was performed for gender, age, years of service, and education level. This study addresses a research gap in Vietnam, where no validated instrument exists to assess Informatics teachers’ readiness for STEM education. The development and validation of the SS-STEM scale contribute to measurement theory and inform teacher training policies. The SS-STEM scale is an essential and applicable tool to ensure validity in educational research and support the testing of subsequent hypotheses.
