Abstract

This study explores how manufacturing firms in developing countries integrate sustainability practices within their supply chains through the adoption of e-commerce platforms. Using two case studies of manufacturing firms in the textile and electronics sectors, this research investigates the motivations, challenges, and strategies involved in the adoption process. Findings indicate that firms are motivated by market differentiation, cost reductions, and the need for environmental compliance. However, they face significant challenges such as limited access to sustainable technologies, financial constraints, and a lack of digital skills within the workforce. To overcome these challenges, firms employ strategies such as external collaboration, staff training, and data-driven decision-making. The study highlights the positive impacts of e-commerce integration on sustainability outcomes, including enhanced operational efficiency, increased market competitiveness, and improved environmental performance. The findings offer valuable insights into the barriers and opportunities for manufacturing firms in developing countries to adopt sustainable practices in their supply chains and provide practical recommendations for overcoming these challenges.
