Abstract

This study investigates the concept and implementation strategies of green villages in the hilly regions of Chengdu–Chongqing, with a focus on ecological adaptability and rural resilience. In response to escalating environmental pressures and socio-economic transformation, the green village model is proposed as a systematic framework integrating renewable energy, water and waste management, eco-infrastructure, and participatory governance. The planning approach is grounded in localized conditions such as topography, hydrology, and land-use patterns, and emphasizes decentralized water reuse, low-carbon energy systems, resource recovery from organic waste, and energy-efficient building practices. A seven-dimensional ecological adaptation framework is outlined, including microgrid-based infrastructure, watershed-scale governance, and community participation mechanisms. Field data and performance projections demonstrate the model’s potential to enhance water security, reduce carbon emissions, and promote circular agricultural practices. This study provides a scalable and transferable planning reference for sustainable rural development in ecologically fragile hilly landscapes.
