Abstract

Nowadays, health and human well-being are major concerns in the fields of design and architecture. Designers should focus not only on the aesthetics and practicality of space but also on its impact on people’s health and happiness. People all over the world are living longer because of medical advances. Everyone wants these extra years of life with good health and happiness. Design plays an important role in shaping good health and well-being. This paper aims to present different design concepts that have been developed to support health and well-being, examining how thoughtful, inclusive, and sustainable design can promote healthier lifestyles, reduce stress, and enhance social interaction. The paper also discusses how physical spaces such as healthcare centers, workplaces, and living areas can be optimized to support well-being. It is shown that various characteristics of a building such as spatial layout, its interior, finishes and furnishings, and contact with nature affect the health and well-being of the users. Services like healthy food also impact positively. This paper highlights successful examples where design has improved health outcomes, stress-reducing office designs, and community spaces that foster social cohesion. Additionally, the paper addresses the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between designers, healthcare professionals, and urban planners in creating environments that are conducive to overall well-being. The challenges and barriers to implementing health-focused design, including financial constraints and resistance to change, are also explored.
