Abstract

Skill development and capacity building play a crucial role in fostering sustainable practices and empowering users to make informed adoptions. This study targeted college-going women from four women’s colleges in Jaipur city, aiming to enhance their knowledge and skills in eco-fashion through a structured awareness program. The sessions provided practical insights into key aspects of eco-fashion, including its definition, significance, causes of unsustainability, health hazards associated with synthetic fabrics, and sustainable fabric treatment methods. Additionally, the curriculum emphasized the 3Rs of sustainability—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—as actionable strategies.

The findings revealed that participants exhibited an increased awareness of sustainable practices and the skills to critically estimate the environmental impact of their fashion choices. The intervention not only expanded their knowledge base but also equipped them with the skills to advocate for and integrate sustainable practices into their daily lives.

This study highlights the effectiveness of interactive and well-structured awareness programs in skill development. Participants appreciated the comprehensive content and engaging delivery, which contributed to a deeper understanding of sustainability concepts. The initiative underscores the potential of capacity-building programs to drive behavioral change and promote sustainable fashion practices. By equipping young women with practical knowledge, this study advocates for the integration of similar educational initiatives into academic and community settings to nurture a generation of eco-conscious individuals committed to sustainable living.
