Abstract

This study provides a comprehensive evaluation of MindShift™ CBT, a digital mental health application designed to assist users in managing anxiety through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles. This research examines the app’s information architecture, user flow, core features, and engagement strategies by integrating theories from clinical psychology, user experience (UX), user psychological analysis, and heuristic user interface (UI) evaluation. The findings suggest that MindShift™ CBT successfully implements CBT principles through structured exercises such as Feelings Check-in, Thought Journal, Belief Experiment, and Facing Fears. This feature supports emotion monitoring and guides users to restructure maladaptive thoughts. As a supporting feature, this app also incorporates gamification elements and community features to enhance engagement and long-term retention. However, this app does not include involvement from a licensed therapist and could potentially cause avoidance behavior among users. Future research should incorporate usability testing, compare similar applications, and explore hybrid models involving clinician guidance. In conclusion, MindShift™ CBT provides a well-structured and evidence-based intervention. For further implications, this study also highlights key areas for enhancing its effectiveness in delivering digital psychotherapy and provides recommendations for further development of similar applications based in Indonesia. These insights could also contribute to the development of more engaging, clinically effective, and user-friendly mental health applications.
