Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of photography has brought significant changes in the creation and interpretation of artistic value. This study aims to explore how AI can be utilized as a tool in the photographic design process to accelerate workflow, provide quality references, and enhance the artistic value of portrait photography. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a design process approach, involving the exploration of AI as an aid in composition, visual ideas, and photographic refinement, which are collaboratively discussed through a focus group discussion. Through case studies and AI software-based experiments, this research identifies various advantages and challenges in using AI in portrait photography within a creative process. The findings show that AI can improve the efficiency of editing, enable broader aesthetic exploration, and provide greater accessibility for photographers of varying skill levels. However, there are challenges related to artistic authenticity and the photographer’s role in preserving the subjective and emotional values of the final work. Thus, this study concludes that AI is not merely an automation tool but also a collaborative medium that can enrich the photographer’s creative process. The integration of AI within the design process method offers new perspectives in generating value in portrait photography, leading to more innovative and adaptive approaches in response to future developments in visual technology.
