Abstract

Tourism is one of the sectors with significant potential to drive Indonesia’s economic growth. According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS, 2023), the tourism sector contributes nearly 4% to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generates millions of jobs. However, to fully optimize this potential, effective regulations are essential. The previous Tourism Law (Law No. 10 of 2009) served as the legal foundation for the sector’s development, but it has faced criticism for being insufficiently responsive to global changes. With the enactment of the new Tourism Law (Law No. 10 of 2022), it is expected that Indonesia’s position in the Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI)—a key indicator of a country’s tourism competitiveness—will improve.
