Abstract

The principal objective of this study is to examine the framework of the International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO), Wonderful Indonesia Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (WINSTO), and Monitoring Centers for Sustainable Tourism Observatory (STO) in National Tourism Strategic Areas (KSPN) in Indonesia.

The methodology employed maps the characteristics of phenomena, with a primary focus on explaining the research object in-depth, factually, and accurately from established facts and the relationships between investigated phenomena at both national and international levels. Research findings indicate that the sustainable tourism monitoring process contains elements of: international networking, specifically the International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO), Wonderful Indonesia Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (WINSTO), and Monitoring Centers for Sustainable Tourism Observatory (STO) in National Tourism Strategic Areas (KSPN) in Indonesia, demonstrating their structural relationship. Additional findings indicate that the structure of Monitoring Centers for Sustainable Tourism Observatories in Indonesia and the implementation of sustainable tourism Monitoring Centers in Indonesia involve stakeholder engagement including: 1) involvement of local governments, academics, research institutions, tourism area/destination managers, visitors/tourists, local communities, community organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other interested parties; 2) establishment of a performance system developed by the Monitoring Center for Sustainable Tourism Observatory (MCSTO), providing comprehensive understanding and awareness regarding Sustainable Tourism Observatory (STO); 3) stakeholder engagement in the monitoring process at destinations; and 4) sharing of national and international monitoring center experiences in implementing sustainable tourism.
