- Abstract
This paper explores the Xiamen Dada group and its postmodern practices, highlighting its importance in Chinese contemporary art history and global influence. Through actions like burning paintings, Xiamen Dada deconstructed traditional art concepts, blending Eastern and Western philosophies to challenge artistic authority. Their institutional critiques, such as the “Gallery Intervention,” questioned the role of art institutions. Within a postcolonial context, Xiamen Dada employed “strategic essentialism,” merging Zen and Dadaism to establish a unique position. Despite disbanding, their legacy continues in younger artists and offers new insights in the digital age, leaving a lasting impact on art history.
