- Abstract
This practice report is based on the English-Chinese translation of Don’t Know Much About Mythology (Excerpts). The text mainly expounds on the mythological stories and cultural backgrounds of various regions in the world, broadening readers’ understanding of different cultures.
During the entire translation process, the main challenge was the large number of proper nouns, which posed significant difficulties in translation. Therefore, this report summarizes common translation methods for proper nouns: transliteration, free translation, and addition/omission. Furthermore, translator proposes a combined translation method and constructs a termbase. Guided by these methods, attempting to translate more mythological texts and texts from other fields has greatly aided the application of various proper nouns, improving efficiency and enhancing consistency.
