- Abstract
Although generative AI (GAI) offers linguistic support and cultural contexts, its responses often reflect mainstream Western viewpoints, which may reinforce implicit cultural and ideological biases. Rather than taking these biases as mere limitations, this study view them as pedagogical tools for cultivating critical thinking (CT) in language learners. Building on Byram’s critical cultural awareness and Pennycook’s critical applied linguistics framework, the study develops classroom strategies, including comparative text analysis, discourse reconstruction, critical debates, and prompt engineering, through a case study of ByteDance’s delayed IPO in a Business English course. Findings suggest that engaging with GAI bias enhances learners’ critical thinking ability, cultural awareness, and prompt literacy in English.
