Proceedings of the 8th International Symposium on Mathematics Education and Innovation (ISMEI 2024)
Conference: Proceedings of the 8th International Symposium on Mathematics Education and Innovation (ISMEI 2024)
Date: 9-10 October 2024
Location: Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia (Hybrid)
Website: https://ismei.qitepinmath.org/ Emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, gamification, and educational apps are at the forefront of a pedagogical revolution in mathematics education. These tools, when integrated into teaching practices, enable educators to create engaging and dynamic learning environments that appeal to a wide array of learning preferences. This symposium is poised to be a pivotal space for investigating how these technologies can captivate students, deepen their understanding, and ignite a lifelong enthusiasm for mathematics. The essence of mathematics education lies not in rote learning but in the mean ingful application of mathematical principles to solve real-world problems. Emerging technologies pave the way for bridging the gap between abstract theories and tangible applications. Moreover, the successful integration of these technologies into mathematics teaching hinges on educators’ proficiency in digital literacy and pedagogical techniques. In this regard, educators require platforms to gain insights on integrating emerging tech nologies fluidly into their teaching strategies, as well as knowledge about the resources necessary to effectively employ technology in their classrooms. In response to this need, SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM), with the sup port of the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Open and Distance Learning (SEAMOLEC), convened the International Symposium on Mathematics Education and Innovation (ISMEI) on 9–10 October 2024 in Grand Rohan Hotel, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Under the banner “Empowering Future Generations through Emerging Technology Trends in Mathematics Education,” the symposium presented an exceptional chance to explore the transformative capabilities of technology in the field of mathematics education in hybrid (offline and online) mode. Gathering a consortium of experts, practitioners, and stakeholders, we aim to collaboratively develop a vision and sculpt the future landscape of mathematics education for the generations ahead. We are committed to this journey, empowering learners with the essential knowledge and skills to succeed in the 21st century. The sub-themes of the conference included within the theme are the following: – Open Distance Learning in Mathematics Education
– Integrating ICT in Mathematics Education
– Computational Thinking, Coding, and Robotics in Mathematics Learning
– AI in Mathematics Education
– Integrative STEM Education
– Statistical Literacy
– Mathematical Modelling
– Ethnomathematics
– Numeracy
– Curriculum and Assessment
– Higher-Order Thinking Skills. The agenda organised by ISMEI consisted of keynote sessions, parallel presentation sessions, and workshops. Each keynote speaker was given 60 minutes for presentations and Q&A session. As for the paper presentations, these were divided into three sessions and six rooms. Each presenter had 20 minutes which was divided into 15 minutes of presentation and 5 minutes of Q&A session. Last but not least, we would like to thank everyone who has contributed and supported this conference.
