- Abstract
In the swift currents of globalization, preserving local cultural identity amidst the influx of global information and culture presents unique challenges. Integrating local culture into education introduces students to their rich cultural heritage while nurturing the noble values of our nation. This study aims to analyze the needs of elementary school and madrasah ibtidaiyah teachers in Jepara Regency for developing teaching materials that incorporate local culture. Employing an embedded mixed-methods approach, this research combines qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys involving 38 teachers from diverse schools. The findings reveal a significant need for integrating local culture into the curriculum, with a high degree of consensus among teachers (mean 2.24, SD 0.71). Challenges include the lack of relevant teaching materials and the necessity for specialized training. The development of culturally-enriched teaching materials, encompassing local history (mean 2.47, SD 0.63) and folklore (mean 2.55, SD 0.59), is recommended to enhance students’ understanding, identity, engagement, and critical thinking, thereby creating a more meaningful educational experience.
