- Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI), and especially generative AI, is reshaping education by changing how knowledge is accessed, produced, assessed, and governed. This chapter examines AI in education from a human-centered perspective, arguing that the central question is not whether AI will replace teachers, but how educational systems can use AI to strengthen human learning, professional judgment, equity, and institutional resilience. The chapter analyzes the evolving role of teachers as learning facilitators, mentors, designers of authentic learning experiences, evaluators of AI outputs, ethical guides, assessment innovators, and leaders of human-AI collaboration. It also discusses generative AI applications in teaching, personalized tutoring, multimodal learning, AI copilots, lifelong reskilling, and immersive environments. At the same time, it highlights major risks, including hallucinated content, academic integrity challenges, overreliance, algorithmic bias, privacy threats, unequal access, and the deskilling of learners and educators. Building on these insights, the chapter proposes a governance-oriented framework for responsible AI adoption in education, including privacy protection, transparency, teacher professional development, assessment redesign, human oversight, evidence-based evaluation, inclusive access, and sustainable funding. The chapter concludes that AI can contribute to more personalized, inclusive, and future-ready education only when guided by ethical.
