Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of educational media, specifically leaflets and PowerPoint presentations, in improving the knowledge of health cadres about pregnancy danger signs. Health cadres play a vital role in maternal and child health, particularly in recognizing early danger signs to prevent complications. However, their knowledge of these danger signs remains limited, reducing their effectiveness in community health management. Using a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design, this quantitative study involved 41 participants in the Bandarharjo Community Health Center area and 41 participants in the Gayamsari Community Health Center area. Participants were divided into two groups: one group received education through leaflets, while the other group received education through PowerPoint presentations. Pre-test and post-test assessments were conducted to evaluate the impact of each type of media on knowledge levels. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge for both groups after the intervention. The leaflet group improved from 39% to 60.9% in the “good” knowledge category, while the PowerPoint group showed an increase from 26.8% to 85.3%. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant difference in knowledge levels before and after the intervention in both groups, with a p-value of 0.039 (p-value < 0.05). This indicates that both educational media effectively enhanced understanding of pregnancy danger signs. This study underscores the importance of targeted educational tools in empowering health cadres to act as sources of health information in their communities, ultimately supporting maternal and fetal safety through early detection and prevention.
