- Abstract
The process of cleaning the swallow’s nest is done manually by workers using tongs that are moved by three main fingers, namely the thumb, index finger, and middle finger. This movement is done repeatedly and puts pressure on the median nerve of the wrist, which can cause CTS.CTS is a narrowing of the carpal tunnel that can cause tingling, numbness, pain, and weakness in the distribution of the median nerve in the hand. This study aims to determine the relationship between individual factors (age, length of service, nutritional status) and work factors (frequency of repetitive movements and stretching habits) with CTS complaints in swallow nest cleaners. The type of research is observational analytic with a cross-sectional research design. The population is all swallow nest cleaners totaling 110 people, while the sample is calculated using the Slovin formula of 53 workers. Data collection on the variables of age, length of service, stretching habits using a questionnaire by interview. Data collection on the variable frequency of repetitive movements using an observation sheet. Data collection on the nutritional status variable is done by measuring body weight and height. Identification of CTS complaints carried out by physiotherapists using the Nerve Compression Test (Durkhan Test). The results of the study are known the average age of respondents was 39.34 years, work experience > 4 years (84.9%), as many as 49 people practiced stretching habits, the average frequency of repetitive movements was 24.19 times/minute, the largest BMI was in the normal category (41.5%) and 38 people experienced CTS. Based on the results of the Chi-Square analysis, it is known that age (p = 0.040), length of service (p = 0.531), nutritional status (BMI) (p = 0.889), frequency of repetitive movements (p = 0.316), stretching habits (p = 0.879). The age variable is related to CTS complaints in workers. There is no relationship between the variables of length of service, nutritional status, frequency of movement and stretching habits with CTS complaints in swallow nest cleaning workers.
