Abstract

The ability of health cadres to recognize and respond promptly to pregnancy danger signs is vital to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality. However, challenges in disseminating information effectively persist due to limited educational media. This qualitative study aimed to explore the educational media needs of health cadres in Semarang, Indonesia, for improving awareness of pregnancy danger signs. Conducted in 2024, this study employed a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) approach with seven informants, including health cadres and community health center staff. Findings revealed that current media used, such as KIA Books and WhatsApp-based resources provided by community health centers, were deemed moderately effective but insufficiently engaging. Participants emphasized the need for an interactive and visually appealing mobile application with concise, detailed, and understandable content. Such media were identified as essential for enhancing counseling effectiveness and empowering cadres to educate pregnant women proactively. The study highlights the critical role of tailored digital tools in bridging knowledge gaps, improving cadre competency, and fostering early detection of pregnancy complications in community health settings. These findings underscore the potential of innovative educational media to strengthen maternal health initiatives and reduce adverse outcomes.
