Abstract

Respiratory and cardiovascular disorders including asphyxia were the main cause of neonatal death in Indonesia and many studies have revealed factors associated with it. However, the association between the health system and respiratory and cardiovascular disorders was unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to determine health system factors associated with respiratory and cardiovascular disorders in neonates in Indonesia. Then, this study was cross-sectional with secondary data obtained from Indonesian Health Profile 2023and the unit analysis was 38 provinces (total sampling) and the statistical analysis method was binary logistic regression. As a result, health system factors associated with respiratory and cardiovascular disorders in neonates in Indonesia were total number of Community Health Center (CHC) (OR: 21.88, 95% CI: 3.30 to 145.24), total number of CHC with inpatient care (OR: 13.42, 95% CI: 2.20 to 82.00), total number of CHC with only outpatient care (OR: 38.40, 95% CI: 3.88 to 379.67), total number of public hospitals (OR: 56.00, 95% CI: 4.94 to 635.38), total number of obstetricians (OR: 17.33, 95% CI: 2.78 to 108.66), total number of pediatricians (OR: 27.00, 95% CI: 3.67 to 198.69), and total number of midwives (OR: 50.00, 95% CI: 4.86 to 514.64). In conclusion, health facilities (CHC and hospital) together with health workers (obstetricians, pediatrics, and midwives) were health system factors associated with respiratory and cardiovascular disorders in neonates in Indonesia.
